SERVICES & POLICY

The city provides water, refuse, and sewer to residents inside the city limits. Water bills are mailed on the 25th of each month.

Your prompt payment is appreciated. The city has a night deposit drop box for your convenience. If payment is not received by the 10th of the month a 10% penalty is added to your bill. Bills not paid by the 20th of the month will be disconnected. A $10.00 disconnect fee and a $10.00 reconnect fee will be added to your bill. There is a $20.00 charge for all returned checks.

You can now pay bills online.

EMERGENCIES

In case of a water leak or emergency, please contact the City Office to have your meter turned off. DO NOT TURN THE WATER METER OFF YOURSELF. If it is after office hours please call the Sheriff’s Office and they will contact the on-duty personnel.

REFUSE & LANDFILL

Refuse is picked up on Tuesday of each week. Dumpsters are located in the alley; please use the dumpster nearest to your residence. The following items are NOT to be placed in the dumpsters:

  • Tires
  • Box springs
  • Mattresses
  • All Metal
  • Appliances
  • Tree Limbs

These items listed above are your responsibility to have taken to the Kearny County Landfill. Landfill hours and days are 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday thru Saturday. Please DO NOT dump grass clippings in the Alley, the clippings should be placed in the dumpsters.

EXTRA FEES

There is a $3.00 Storm Sewer Fee – this is a maintenance fee.

PERMITS

Before you build, remodel, put up a fence, shed or garage, etc. you MUST obtain a building permit from Jim Brewer, the Building / Zoning Officer at the Deerfield office on Tuesday & Thursday from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon and 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. or at the Lakin office on Monday, Wednesday, & Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

STORM SHELTER

The Deerfield High School locker rooms have been designated as the local storm shelter. Please call the Superintendent’s office at 620.426.8516 for more information.

RECYCLE

The City of Deerfield is urging everyone to recycle. We have placed recycling bins at the northwest corner of the parking lot on the corner of 7th and Main St., next to the alley. The bins are marked as to what should go in each bin and we urge you to place only those items in the bins specifically marked for such items.
Items that are being accepted:

  • Newspapers
  • Magazines
  • Office Paper
  • Plastic Soda Containers
  • Plastic Milk Containers
  • Aluminum Cans
  • All Glass

NO PLASTIC GROCERY BAGS, PLEASE

PLEASE REMOVE ALL LIDS FROM POP BOTTLES AND MILK CONTAINERS.

In addition there are dumpsters for cardboard boxes located in the alley behind Deerfield Grocery, Deerfield AG, and the school. You may use these dumpsters for recycling boxes, but the boxes must be broken down before placing them in the dumpsters.
